How to conduct alien crosstalk testing with the Fluke DSX series network cable tester

2024-05-19

Alien crosstalk, also known as AXT, is the electromagnetic noise generated when cables are bundled or ports are stacked. Simply put, it is the noise coupling of adjacent cable pairs to the tested cable pair.

Before performing the alien crosstalk test, it is necessary to use the Fluke DSX series network cable testers (DSX2 - 8000 CH, DSX2 - 5000 CH) to conduct an automatic test on each cable in the cable bundle. The automatic test will tell you whether each cable can support the IEEE 802.3 10GBASE - T standard. It can also measure the insertion loss required by the AxTalk analyzer to calculate the pass/fail limits of PS ANEXT and PS AACR - F. In addition, the AxTalk analyzer also allows you to select the victim link and the disturbing link from the LinkWare database.

The PS ANEXT interference link test is used to measure the amount of signal received by the wire pairs in another test cable at the near end, which is sent by the near-end transmitter. AxTalk can measure the alien near-end crosstalk of all 16 wire pair combinations between two cabling links within the frequency range of 1 to 500 MHz.

The PS AACR - F interference link test is used to measure the amount of signal received by the wire pairs in another test cable at the far end, which is sent by the near - end transmitter. AxTalk can measure the attenuation - based alien far - end crosstalk of all 16 wire pair combinations between two cabling links within the frequency range of 1 to 500 MHz.

If it is really impossible to find a network cable for synchronous link, the channel adapter can be used for testing at the near end, as shown in the following figure.

The AxTalk analysis software needs to be installed on the computer.

The above is the method for conducting alien crosstalk tests using the FLUKE DSX2-5000 CH and DSX2-8000 CH network cable testers. I wonder if you have mastered it.
